Meet Joshua

Born into a working-class family in the Algonquin neighborhood of West Louisville, Joshua Alexander Crowder is a dedicated community organizer and Democratic Socialist running to represent District 4 in the Louisville Metro Council.

Joshua’s upbringing and early encounters with the harsh realities of poverty ultimately shaped his perspectives on race, economics, and the intricate connections between US foreign and domestic policy and the systemic injustices plaguing the nation and the world. The bedrock of his advocacy work is an unwavering focus on the concerns and needs of working people and a strong belief that real power lies in the collective voice and actions of the working class.

After attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, Joshua returned to Louisville in 2019. Soon after, he became involved with the Sunrise Movement, a group that draws attention to the climate crisis and advocates for a Green New Deal. Later, he joined the Democratic Socialists of America, furthering his commitment to the working people of Louisville. Joshua worked as staff on Charles Booker’s primary campaigns against Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul for US Senate and volunteered on Robert LeVertis Bell’s campaign for Kentucky State Representative. A proud Teamster and UPS worker, Joshua is a labor organizer with the Futures Committee for Teamsters Local 89.

Joshua is also a classical pianist and proud dog dad.
